INTRODUCTION
The Bible speaks boldly about God’s love for people living in poverty, and especially our Christian responsibility to help. We have a blueprint from Jesus on how to care for the poor and oppressed. My favorite scripture reads as follows: Proverbs 14:31, “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
This week, we will discuss the importance of implementing procedures and programs to reduce poverty, and how it can improve living standards and promote social and economic development. We will also explore how the church, individuals, and society can help to reduce – hopefully eradicate – poverty.
