Create Good Paying Jobs
One solution to poverty reduction is to create good-paying jobs that meet family needs. Raise the minimum wage to ensure income stability for all. It should not be happening in a country so blessed with wealth that people have to work 40 hours a week and still not be able to pay rent or eat healthy meals. Remember when mom stayed home and attended to the household chores while dad worked outside of the home? Today, just to survive, both persons must work. What happens to the children?
The Raise the Wage Act would gradually lift the federal minimum wage to $15.00 an hour by 2025. This would lift up to 3.7 million Americans out of poverty and especially benefit people of color, women, and people with disabilities, who are represented in low-wage jobs according to the CAP article of June 2021.
